Your House – Your Vacation

“I fell in love with the Mediterranean philosophy of good wine, good food and family.”Stephen White

That loose, easy-flowing feeling of the Mediterranean can be yours daily.  With 2 stories filled with light, 3,313 square feet, 3 bedrooms and 3 ½ baths, your vacation is right here.  The Capri (D-3313A), by Living Concepts House Plans award winning Frank Snodgrass will have you loving good wine, good food and family too.

This home plan is impressive. The Mediterranean style is strongly influenced by Spanish and Italian motif.  Time-honored exterior elements of stucco and brick are most popular and a brightly tiled, low-pitched roofline contrasts that with exotic energy.  Imagine the light, warm tones and natural materials of wood, wrought iron, marble and stone in this home.

Relax –

Driving in you must already feel the calm of this beautiful home.  The tall, windowed 2-story entryway is grand, but welcoming.  Landscape your surroundings with yellows, whites, bold reds or bright pink flowers.  Perhaps rich green cypress trees flank your front door.  Enter your calm through a richly hued wood and windowed door.

Hola Spain

Let your large foyer greet you with the feeling of sunny, romantic Spain.  With a soaring two-story ceiling, a black iron chandelier sets the tone.  A tiled floor or a rough, bleached wooden plank floor with a soft mat is ideal here.  On the left wall there is a spot for a simple wooden bench to sit and take off your tired shoes. Set a sculpture by well-known Spanish painter and sculptor Josep Maria Subirachs on a strong wood hall table. The stairwell to your second floor is on the right of the foyer.  This stairwell is in one of two tall towers, rounded with windows at the top. At the base of the staircase, black balustrades are a perfect match to your chandelier.

Ciao Italy

From the foyer, your great room is defined by columns.  With 10’ ceilings throughout the first floor, ceilings in the great room, dining room, breakfast area and kitchen might have dark, wood beams for charm. With colors of rich, warm yellows, soft beige and textured walls, you can build your own Italy.  There is a large fireplace in the great room.  Large windows are your ‘walls’ here and in the dining room.  The light, bright open feel lends itself to easy, breezy Mediterranean vibes.  Flanking the fireplace are shelves, perfect for a mini Tower of Pisa, a little rosemary plant and travel books.  Your Italian leather sectional and a large coffee table can display your glass bowl of lemons (just like the one you have in the kitchen) and your books about Rome, Florence, high fashion, Italian wines and glass from Murano.

Your adjoining dining room, with perimeters marked with columns, will always welcome guests for rich pasta dishes and meatballs, or several of your favorite items from your Mediterranean style cookbook.  A long, rustic dining table and wood benches will be the base for many great meals and conversations.  There is a solid section of wall in the dining room between the doorways to your sunroom/breakfast/kitchen areas.  Place a china cabinet or low sideboard here for extra storage.

Your kitchen is large.  There is an island with raised countertop for seating around your cooktop and a peninsula edged counter giving you plenty of seating options.  There is a corner pantry for all your pastas, beans and canned tomatoes.  Hang some garlic braids and stock up on your favorite olive oils and balsamic vinegars.  Your kitchen blends into your breakfast space that has widows and room for banquet seating.  Mangia!  Eat well and you’ll feel abbiocco (the drowsiness that follows eating a big meal).

From your breakfast area, walk into your sunroom.  This is not walled off to create a more outdoor type of sunroom, this is a very windowed, interior, room.  Think of a rug in rich reds, warm yellows, a small bar cart, a few tall plants or trees, dark rattan furniture and patterned fabrics.

From your sunroom, walk out a glass door to your large patio.  Imagine the lush fragrance emitting from your pots of basil and oregano.  Plant a few cherry tomatoes in pots.  Enjoy your favorite red wine, fill your playlist with Pavarotti to Puccini, Bartoli to La Boheme and you’ve just brought the best seat in the house of Teatro Alla Scalla (opera house) in Milan to your haven.

Kalinixta Greece- (Goodnight)

When your day is done, a large bedroom suite on the entire left-side of this home is perfect for deep blues (think Indigo), clean white walls or linens and calming, soft greens.  Think small pops of lemon yellows, sandy tones and textures of plaster, rock and stone carving in harmonious, easy tones.  You enter your luxurious suite from the foyer.  An ‘interior’ foyer in the space greets you. A round table with a white bowl of lemons and greenery, or a milk white glass bowl with glass orbs in sea colors sets the tone.  To the left is the large master bath.  Your L-shaped counter with 2 sinks, are romantically set in the second of the two tall towers with tall widows at the top. (from the exterior photo, this is the left tower)

Your soaking tub sits under a window and your walk-in shower with soft blue/green glass tile and white tile floor is sure to put the calm in your days and nights. Head toward your suite, walking by two large walk-in closets.  Keeping one for all your vacation outfits, the other for your ‘real’ daily life is completely doable here. Finally, your double-tray ceiling will look down on you, so paint it a soft blue, while you read or slumber your night away. Soft, plush white linens on your bed will keep the easy, breezy Greek feeling here.  If all else fails, stream The Durrell’s in Corfu on the telly and dream of that vacation.  There is also a door from this main area to your patio where you might enjoy evening sips of Ouzo.

Magari–-(maybe, if only, I wish..)

Maybe, if only, I wish, I desire…..From the main foyer in the house, and to the right of the staircase, you’ll find a small powder room and a nicely sized laundry room.  The laundry room leads to your generous 3-car garage for your cars, toys, and tools.  In any of these spaces you can mix or match the best of Spain, Italy and Greece.

Are We There Yet?

Heading up your stairs from the foyer, your vacation vibes are still present.  At the top of the stairs and to the left is a large loft area, open to the great room below. Make the railing to below Italianate in style and carry colors of rich yellow, cream, reds for a nice office.  Beyond the loft, to the left, is a large walk-in attic space. To the right of the staircase are two bedroom suites, each with its own in-suite bathroom.  One suite has a walk-in closet, the other a large reach in. Imagine your family or friends that come to stay here already feeling on vacation – they won’t have to share spaces for showering/primping!

A few steps down from the 3rd suite is a large bonus room.  Teenage gathering space?  Cave space for him or her?  Exercise and office space?  Make this space make you happy.
