The Osbourne Plan, English Country

The Osbourne Plan, English Country is a smart choice wrapped in comfort. Why smart? It has the extras you might be looking for in a design that works. The two-story home by Living Concepts has 2951 square feet with four bedrooms, four full baths and one half-bath.

The two-car garage is front-facing. The steep incline of the roof is typical of a European home. The front portico (porch) includes an arch that softens the angles of the windows, which are rectangular. The half-timbers perform the same function, as well as adding a contrast to the white or off-white exterior of the home. Now, let’s wander inside.

     The First Floor

First, from the portico to the foyer, you will notice the stairs going up to the second floor on your left. A closet is under the stairs. Then, on the same side, the laundry room has designated spaces for your washer and dryer. It also has a utility sink, a feature you didn’t know you needed until you do. Like for rinsing off your hiking boots because those trails can get muddy. (An aside- did you know this is The Year of the Trail? Indeed, it is!).

Then, with clean shoes and back in the foyer, the guest room is on your right. It includes a walk-in closet. The bathroom has a single sink, toilet and shelf tub. The powder room is across from the guest suite. Keep walking towards the back of the home and you will enter the grand room.

Next, in the grand room, a fireplace is on the right wall, with shelves you might like on either side. A door on the back wall, left side, opens to the outside. Here, a covered lanai (like a porch, with more than one wall open) invites you to sit and stay for a while. Adding an English Country Garden will increase that sense of peacefulness we all crave.

Then, back inside, the grand room is open to the dining room and kitchen. You will have plenty of room to put an oblong table and chairs, or even a large round one. Your home, your choice. From the dining room, you walk towards the front of the house into the kitchen.

Next, a spacious island holds a double sink as well as your dishwasher. It also has room for seating. The range/oven is on the right wall, with the refrigerator on the far wall. The kitchen pantry-an essential room- is open to the kitchen and the hall in front of the laundry room.

     The Garage and Master Suite

The two-car garage has a door on the left side that opens onto your side yard. On the back wall, however, are the steps and the door that take you inside. A short hall here gives you privacy as you enter the master suite. Then, from your sleeping retreat, you walk into the master bath. Two single sinks are separated by enough counter space to give you the room you need.

Storage is beneath each sink. On the outside wall and in the corners, you will find the toilet (enclosed) and the walk-in shower. Between those is your garden tub. Finally, you enter the walk-in closet where you will have the room to store your hiking boots as well as your dancing shoes.

     The Second Story

First, once upstairs, you are in the loft. Turn to the right and go through the door. Here is attic storage, a space that becomes more necessary as your accumulation of deemed necessary items grows. Seasonal decorations, for example. Another much-used space will be the bonus room, located over the two-car garage. Make this your playroom, an exercise room or media/gaming room.

Then, back in the loft, a place for your desk is on the far wall. Finally, there are two more bedroom suites upstairs. Suite #2 faces the back yard and suite #3 is on the left side of the house. Each bedroom has its own walk-in closet, plus a bath with a single sink, toilet and tub/shower.
