When you hear Linville, what do you think? Mountain streams and waterfalls? A retreat? Well, The Linville Plan: European Retreat by Living Concepts is like that, too- unique. A one-of-a-kind place where you can get away. Oh, and yes, Linville is also a lovely place in the North Carolina mountains.
The exterior, as shown, is stone with cedar shingles. Your eyes are drawn to the front entrance, or loggia, which is slightly off-center. The three-car garage, detached- and our focus this month, is to the right of the house. A window with a wrought-iron balcony rail on the second floor here lets you know that the garage is multi-purpose.
Downstairs, there are two powder rooms and the master suite with its own bath. Upstairs, there are three more bedroom suites, each with its own bath, plus a mother-in-law suite above the garage.

The First Floor- Garage and Entering the Home
There are three single bays in the garage. Shelves on the far-right of the back wall will hold those tools you want to reach easily. A room with doors (that could lock, your choice) is also along the back wall. Then, on the left of the garage, is the door that takes you upstairs. Another door from the outside is found diagonally from the garage one. Finally, a door on the left wall opens up into the breezeway.
The breezeway is a flipped L shape. It leads to a short hall. On your right, there is a reach-in closet where you could drop off or pick up your jacket or rain gear. Then, immediately on your left, you will find the laundry room, another reach-in closet, and a powder room.

The First Floor-Dining and Relaxing
Next, turn left and you will have entered the kitchen. For me, the retreat starts here with a dozen baking books and a kitchen that says Bake! Eat! Enjoy! But, I digress. Even with a large kitchen island, there is plenty of room for more than one person to prepare your meals. On the left wall, your cooktop and oven are flanked by countertops. On the right wall, a door opens up into a large walk-in pantry. Honestly, you could get lost in here. Almost.
Then, the kitchen peninsula houses the double sink. Ahead is the breakfast room, the gathering room with a fireplace, with shelves on either side. The bar with a sink is tucked into the corner behind doors and faces the gathering room.

Next, the dining room is to the left of the foyer. On the right side, you will find shelving. A tray ceiling adds architectural interest. Then, walking towards the back of the house, a sliding door from the dining room takes you into the gallery. A reach-in closet is ahead. Then, to the left, is the grand room with another fireplace and shelves.
From here, you can take the stairs on the right going up, or you can choose to walk out onto the terrace, which extends from the master suite on the left all the way to the gathering room on the right. Another set of stairs is in the foyer. Close to the gallery is a reach-in closet.

The First Floor-Study and Master Suite
Next, to the left of the foyer, you will see the study. On the left wall, a fireplace is once again embraced by shelves. Hmmm, a Sherlock Holmes series for here, maybe Jussi Adler Olson for the grand room and, for the kids, Magic Tree House. All three rooms are retreat ready, then! The study opens up into a small bar. Around the corner is another powder room.
The master suite is on the left side of the home. Like the dining room, it also has a tray ceiling. There are two walk-in closets diagonally to the sleeping area. Then, the master bath includes an enclosed toilet, a linen closet, two single sinks, across from each other, a soaking tub and a walk-in shower. Retreat ready! Especially with your favorite bath bombs. Let’s see upstairs now!

Second Floor-Beginning with the Garage
The in-law suite or apartment is above the garage. The sleeping area is at the back. It has a walk-in closet. The living area is in the middle. Then, facing the front of the house, there is the kitchen and bath (single sink, toilet and tub/shower).

Second Floor- Suites, Sewing and Storage
There are three bedroom suites on this floor. First, suite #2 is on the left side of the home. It has shelving in the room, a walk-in closet, and bath with sink, toilet and shower/tub. Suite #3 is facing the front of the home. It is similarly attired, with the exception that it has a small linen closet. Then, suite #4 is on the right side of the home, having the same setup as suite #1.
The sewing room, closest to the last suite, looks over your backyard and has a balcony. Attic storage is plentiful, with access being given by way of suite #2’s walk-in closet. More attic space is available using the door from the balcony area, close to the staircase on the left side.
