Small & Mighty – The Dormont

Small and Mighty – The Dormont

“Be like water, which is fluid & soft & yielding, as in time, water will overcome rock which is rigid & hard. Therefore, what is soft is strong.”― Anonymous

This warm, welcoming cottage/craftsman style home brings you an easy feeling, downsized space, but luxury and style you would expect in a larger home.  From covered front and rear porches to vaulted ceilings, a fireplace and an open floor plan, you will spend hours and hours marveling that this is yours in which to live.  This, the Dormont, brings you single floor living, 3 bedrooms, and 2 full baths in just under 1900 sq. feet.

The craftsman style, utilizing natural colors and materials, peeking eyebrow windows and tapered columns, exudes calm and strength all at once.  Your covered front porch, the cottage influence, will be the place to sit and peacefully watch the world or enjoy coffee with your favorite conversationist.  Plant colorful, low-growing plants and shrubs for easily maintainable landscaping.

Small and Mighty – The Dormont

Do not be deterred but the smaller size of this home.  Believe me, small and mighty is what this plan is about.  Comfortable, cozy, (less to clean), more time to spend doing what you enjoy is the benefit of a smaller home and yet, offering plenty of space to entertain (inside and out), a roomy master suite and 2 suites for guests is where the strength lies.  Freedom and function.

Entering the foyer, notice two solid, but short walls.  Hang your favorite pictures on one side and a console table on the other, with a decorative vessel to hold sea glass or a cool sculpture.

Family Room, Kitchen & Dining Room

I know you are eyeing the family room just beyond the foyer. Go ahead, walk that way.  A rich, leather sofa and sturdy leather chairs are waiting for you to sit in front of the fireplace.  Built-in shelves, flanking the fireplace, hold photos, books, an alabaster vase and folded throw blankets for any time of year.  From here, there is a door to your covered terrace.

The kitchen opens to the family room.  A large island with sinks and an arced end for barstool seating will be a favorite spot any time of day.  You’ll love the walk-in pantry too.  The eating area can be as formal or casual as you wish, as it is the only ‘dining’ space in the house. A door from the dining area leads out to the deck.

Back hall & Garage Space

To the left of the kitchen/dining area is a small hallway area that leads to your laundry room, a closet, and out to your 2-car garage.  This garage will happily hold your daily driver and your weekend fun convertible.

 Guest Suites

From the foyer, go left to the 2 bedrooms for guests or your own family.  While neither of these bedrooms has an attached bathroom, a full bath with double sink vanity is accessible just outside the rooms.

These suites are at the front of the house and away from the master suite.  If you don’t need both bedrooms to be used as such, one room can make for an ideal office.

Master Suite

Going to the right, from the foyer, a short hallway leads to your master suite.  This space has a door out to the covered terrace as well.  Can’t sleep?  You can slip out your door and sit on the terrace to enjoy a cup of tea or sit and read any time of day or night.  Your master bath has a long vanity with 2 sinks.  A separate space for privacy holds your commode.  Your shower and separate tub are across from your sinks.  At the front of the house is a large walk-in closet, with a window view to the outdoors.  With a closet organization system, this space will surely hold all your clothes and accessories.

  Outside

The outside spaces of this home are as ideal as the inside.  Not only do you have an open porch area for al fresco dining, but the covered patio allows for extra seating and safety when the weather is less than ideal.  Extending the patio can offer space for your chaise chair when you want to get some sun.  Installing a pool will add so many more options and perhaps an area to hold a firepit, more seating, or even a covered outer entertaining space.  It’s your home – dream it, see it, live it.

This home is a perfect size for one or a family.  Your interior and exterior spaces are suited for hanging out and enjoying your surroundings.  So, what are you waiting for?  Hit the green “Add to cart’ button on the plan page and you are on your way!

Make this your own.  Welcome Home.
