Screen Time: Your Porch – The Emory

Charm: (v.) to delight greatly.  Synonyms: to please, win, captivate, allure, appeal to

Seeing this home, The Emory (F-4099), by Frank Snodgrass of Living Concepts homes, you must feel, sense, and know this home radiates charm.  With just shy of 4100 square feet that brings you 4 bedrooms, 4.5 baths, 10-foot ceilings, and loads of gathering spaces – indoors and out – this home will delight you greatly.  With influences of French Country and European features, this will captivate you, lure you in and win over your friends and family.

Forget about what the term ‘screen time’ means to you, The Emory will redefine that into a lovely gathering/dining space in this home.  Come and see more, the ‘wow’ has just begun.

Front of Emory

From the asymmetrical look of the exterior, the steeply pitched roof with little to no eave overhang, and varied rooflines, this is classic French Country style.  Using natural exterior materials, like brick, brings in European flair.  The arched windows flanked with shutters add hominess and comfort to a stately façade.  This exemplifies the beauty of French Country style; it can be as formal as you like or comfortably chic.

 Covered Portico and Beyond

Stepping onto the covered front portico you are greeted by a double door entry.  Open them to find delights just waiting for you.  Your foyer is open to your dining room to the left and has a solid wall on the right.  This spot is ideal for a bench to sit on and a rack for hanging a dried wreath or jackets.  If you prefer, great wall art fits just as nicely.

Straight ahead, cross a hall into your large family room with a beautiful fireplace.  Flanking the fireplace is space for shelving, wood log storage, and/or a cozy bench seating with storage underneath.  Whether you are celebrating a holiday, birthday, or just having friends in for a good time, this family room has enough space for all.  What’s a better addition to this space?  The double doors lead out to one of the several outdoor entertainment areas.

A lovely, covered veranda brings outdoor entertaining into frequent reality. You will enjoy grilling and dining out here.  The addition of a few herbs and flowers in pots adds color and texture.  Another huge bonus is a second fireplace.  Seems to me that the outside living spaces of this home are competing for your attention.  There is beauty all over this property – inside and out.

 Garage, Laundry and Kitchen delights

Your 2-car garage is on the left side of the home.  Walking up a few stairs into the house, you are met with practicality, purpose, and instant relaxation.  Your laundry room is on the left with space for a washer, dryer, sink, and a back wall for lower storage cabinets, a counter, and more upper storage.  To the right, in the back hall, is a closet and room for a bench, hanging hooks for the recycle bags that you take to the farmers market, the shoes that have carried you around all day, and a jacket to grab.

Keep walking straight to your large, very functional, and entertaining kitchen.  This is a dream gourmet kitchen.  A large peninsula island offers seats for eating, prepping food, or chatting with friends.  Counter space galore is here for all you like to cook or bake.  Ask for help and you still have plenty of room to move in here.  The eat-in area is larger than the dining room so go ahead and put in a table that extends to seat 8 or even 10 people.  A wonderful feature in the kitchen is a walk-in pantry.  This dream space might hold a chest freezer, another small refrigerator as well as cleaning supplies, food staples, big pots, and platters.

 Piece de Resistance

Here it is, THE spot in the house that will have you laughing at Mother Nature.  Go ahead, bring the rain. Ok, so there are bugs.  Nothing will bother you now. This screen porch, accessible from the kitchen and the covered veranda, is perfect for….everything.  From the kitchen to the family room, out to the covered veranda, and into the covered, screened, (room really) porch in the back corner, you have created entertaining to the max.  Coffee?  Meals?  Board games?  Bridal or baby showers?  Everyone will want them to happen here.  Hang a tv, place easy furniture.  Hello fun.

  Master Suite and More

From the kitchen, head toward the front of the house and the foyer.  You will pass a small butler’s pantry, stairs to the second floor, the dining room and a hallway to the master suite.  In this hallway area is a closet and powder room.

Down your main hallway toward the furthest right side of the house, turn left to your master retreat.  Double doors take you to an interior labyrinth of sorts.  Another ‘foyer’ inside your space gives you two options, go left through more double doors to your large main bedroom area or go straight ahead and walk into your private, large office.  No, work will not infiltrate your sleep or mental space at night because the beauty of doors that close and separate the spaces prohibits that.  Bonus right?!

Your master bath, with long 2-sink vanity, corner shower, soaking tub and private space for your commode can be as luxe or calm as you wish. There are 2 small linen closets for all your extra towels, toiletries, and a few cleaning supplies.  At the front corner of the house, and this space is a walk-in closet that puts a shopper’s shopper in his/her place.  This closet has so much room for all you want so don’t be shy with shoes, handbags, and clothes for all seasons.

  Upstairs: More delights in store

Heading up the stairs from your kitchen area, your second story is fantastic.  To the left of the top stair is a bath with a shower and single sink vanity.  One of three suites up here is located just at the top of the steps.  This suite has a great benefit in that it has a door with access to ANOTHER porch area.  A covered upper terrace is a beautiful feature here.  Set up cozy chairs and a table, a few potted plants, music ready to go, and your ‘rooftop’, anytime chill is right here.  To the right of the stairs, and on the right, is another suite for your family or guests.  It has its own private bath and walk-in closet.

Across from this bedroom is a great media room.  This ideal space can hold many of those awesome movie-theater quality recliner chairs and a large screen for your own, anytime movie nights or tv binging.  Get the popcorn machine poppin’, a fridge for cold drinks and your private screening is ready for you.

There is another suite with a full bath, walk-in closet, and a door to expansive attic storage space.  No pull-down ladders for you here.
