Hello July. Hello, hot, muggy, sticky, exhausted days of summer. Are you craving a break and a getaway? Perhaps you are just hitting your swing into vacation or thinking about a weekend away. Perhaps lines at the airport, on highways, at gas stations, or just the thought of packing up, dealing with crowds, and the energy that requires, makes you reconsider. So, do a staycation. Oh, feels like that’s what you’ve been doing for a few years? I agree, but as it seems everyone else is out and about and there are still travel challenges, here’s a reason to rethink a big trip. This Seabrook plan, brought to you by Living Concepts Home Plans, brings you the “R & R’ feeling of vacation daily.
With more than 4300 sq. feet of living space, 3 bedrooms and 3.5 baths (and in ONE story living), the delights, comforts and vacation vibe are right here. With the name of Seabrook, you already feel relaxed, don’t you? Can you hear the ocean tides roll in and out…your shoulders ease as you breathe? Incidentally, Seabrook is also the name of a wonderful barrier island close to Charleston, South Carolina. If getting to that Seabrook is a challenge, let that go…..you can live in this one.
No Beaching – The Seabrook
The beautiful, coastal look of this home begins with curb appeal. This cottage/craftsman-style brings you classic elements of shake cedar siding and stone. Low-pitched rooflines and wide overhangs are typical for these styles too. The cupola above the garage and arches above windows, the front door, and garage doors just beg you to come in and relax. Let’s go.

Walking into your large foyer, you are welcomed by several spaces. A study is to your left, a hallway with a great room is beyond that, stairs up to the attic and down to the lower level are to the right. A hallway ‘behind’ the study takes you to a powder room, a bedroom, and a full bath. Let’s talk about the study first. This space is at the front of the house with a large window. Outside that window is a raised bed or you can add a flower box for a colorful, beautiful office view. The study has a small counter/bar area for a little coffee machine and under counter fridge. With plenty of space for bookshelves or bench seating, working in this space will feel anything but ‘work’.
A second opening, just beyond the study, leads to the powder room and a full bath with entry from the bedroom or the hallway. A quiet, corner bedroom with a closet is a nice restful center for family and friends.

Back to the foyer, a stairwell winds up to the attic space that is above the garage, or head down to your lower level. Now, cross the hallway into your great room. This space revolves around a fireplace. (What’s cool about this room is how open it is (WIDE) to your dining room, and kitchen area.) There is a door leading out to a deck, but the room itself is large for living. Either a soft sectional for hunkering into while watching a movie, or reading, or a more formal seating area for entertaining would both be appropriate here. This is THE place to be for keeping up with all the happenings around the house.

Dining Room, Kitchen and Screen porch
From your great room, walk into your dining room which adjoins a screened porch and a large kitchen. There is some definition to the dining space created by an angled counter/bar top area from the kitchen. A door from the kitchen also leads to your screen porch. This kitchen has an island that could seat four and house a prep sink. With plenty of counter space and a corner pantry, there isn’t much this kitchen can’t handle. You’ll enjoy making memories with friends and family gatherings here. Scorching summer days – not for you….invite your friends and let the frozen drinks from your blender flow. You can sit on your screen porch, but I have a better spot that is waiting on the lower level.
Notice that you have the benefit of a screen porch and a large outdoor terrace. Dine al fresco, or if the weather or bugs bother you, sit in the comfort of the screen porch. Everything is an option here.

Laundry and Garage
As you head toward the garage from the kitchen, pass by your laundry room. Yes, there is room for the washer and dryer, counter space and installing a small utility sink. A convenient utility door from the garage takes you outside and provides nice airflow when a garage door (or both) is open.

Lower Level
Come on down…. you’re going to really appreciate this whole area when the days are so hot you can fry an egg on the pavement or too humid for your hair to obey any hairspray.
At the base of the stairs is a door to a large mechanical/storage room. A welcoming and cool rec room centers, like a hub, the ‘spoke’ rooms that provide complete living down here. Another fireplace will keep the chill away, the bar area across from the fireplace offers all you need for entertaining a few or a crowd. Plenty of seating, a sink, fridge, counter space, and under-storage options leave you wanting for nothing.
Between the mechanical room and the bar area is a room for your own yoga studio. Add some weights, a rowing machine, a good speaker system for your favorite tunes and you won’t mind exercising. Even better are the double doors that lead out to a long, covered terrace. See, after you work out, an invigorating (yet relaxing) soak in a spa hot tub is just a few paces away, covered under that terrace.
Now, back to the rec room, there is a room where you can forget about the summer heat and the lack of motivation to be outside. You have a media room. A movie-watching, all-day marathon for a film junkie’s dream space is just waiting for you. Darken this room, sound-proof it….install great surround sound speakers, a large screen and you’re almost ready to forego the rest of the world for a while. Don’t forget the snacks and cool drinks you’ll want next to you. A full vending machine would be perfect right? With reclining seating and convenient eating/drinking, you won’t find a better theater for yourself. Now, which adventure movie, drama, comedy, thriller or rom-com will you escape into first?
There is a hallway from the rec room that takes you past a closet and bathroom. This bathroom has a doorway out to the covered terrace (so after your hot tub soak, you can go right into the bathroom for a shower) and one into the hallway. At the end of the hall is a small closet and doors leading to the 3rd bedroom and an outside storage area. This third bedroom makes for another quiet space when friends and family visit. The outside storage area has a door to the outside so access for spa chemicals, tools, or anything you need is here.

Covered Terrace
Your lower-level covered terrace is spacious. Yes, there is room for a grill, table and chairs, additional chairs for relaxation, outdoor kitchen area, and more. Who needs the beach? Not you. It’s too hot. If you have the space for it, put it in your own pool. You won’t miss the sand, dragging umbrellas, towels, chairs, and unintended sunburn. Or, dance around in a sprinkler and enjoy the comforts of your beautiful home.

This charmer, Seabrook, is a haven for every season. When it’s too hot to be outdoors, even oceanside, your media room and everything around you is just the right staycation you need.
