Kenilworth – Tradition Your Way

If you like classy and elegant in your surroundings and not stuffy, predictable, and droll, then this plan, the traditional Kenilworth, is for you.

Living Concepts brings you this versatile home for yourself or your family.  With just shy of 2,500 square feet, you’ll appreciate the space for entertaining, but its 3 beds and 2.5 baths won’t accommodate a crowded house of overnight guests.  Yes, the traditional look of the home – brick, arches, and rectangular windows is typical, but how you make it yours isn’t.

The beauty of traditional-style homes is that you can break molds and boundaries.  Yes, there is molding, wainscotting on the walls, and columns.  However, this is a 1.5-story home, not a two-story.  The main floor is wide open and not a series of separate rooms.  You’ll find it works rather well for flow, wants, and needs.

Let’s Look –

 Backwards First

Since you’re probably most likely to park in the two-car garage every day, we’ll start here.

There is a utility door to the outside from the back of the garage. A stoop takes you inside to your laundry room and a back hall closet.  Then, this leads into your kitchen with another closet, or you can use as a pantry.

The kitchen is U-shaped, with the sink and raised bar area facing the gathering room and breakfast area. The cooktop stove is in the center island. Yes, you can still have friends and family over, prep, cook, and not feel like you’re the ‘caterer’.  You will be ‘in the know’ with an open plan.

Main Living

Let’s talk a moment about what traditional style, your way, can be.  If you aren’t into bold, deep colors, that’s fine, don’t use them.  If you like hardwoods and want them in a dark stain, with light area rugs for accent, that’s fine too.  Your traditional statement comes through in the home’s exterior style and in the use of wood and detailed moldings.

With the breakfast/eating area in the corner of the kitchen, you’ll appreciate watching nature and the sunrise while enjoying your morning coffee.

The gathering room is large and anchored by a fireplace.  There is a narrow half-wall dividing the eating area and gathering room.  For interest, perhaps this wall looks like a bookcase and has open slots for something or nothing, making it an unexpected, surprising detail.

The gathering room is the social center.  Cushy, soft leather furniture will hold up for many movie nights, sports game-watching, and holiday celebrations.  Windows looking to the backyard bring in the weather and light.  A door leads to a covered lanai you can use year-round.

The gathering room is open wide to the foyer.  How nice to walk through the front door without feeling cramped or closed in.  This wide-open space lets you see to the backyard and what’s been going on in the house. A staircase, on a diagonal, leads up to the upstairs with a few bedrooms, but we’ll talk about that later.

Since the stairwell is at an angle, maybe you can do something fun or interesting with the ‘under’ space.  Install wine storage? Make a hideout nook for a pet?

Off the foyer, to the left of the front door, are a powder room and a front closet.

Main Suite

The main suite takes up most of the left side of the house. Not only will you appreciate the main-floor suite, but the large bedroom, plenty of windows, and direct access to the covered lanai are happy bonuses.  Make your bed space relaxing, peaceful, and restful, your tomorrows will thank you.

YES! Cheers to separate walk-in closets.  That is a lovely treat here, and whether both are for you or not, the function is certainly a plus.

Do you like separate walk-in closets?  Well, the bathroom also has single-sink vanities.  Again, a happy plus.  A shower, soaking tub, and privacy for the commode finish this bathroom retreat perfectly.

Upstairs

Remember, I said this is a one-and-a-half-story home, but with most of your daily needs on the first floor, having some space upstairs shouldn’t affect you much if you have physical limitations.  If you have college kids, visitors, or need an office, here’s where those all fit.

At the top of the stairs is an open loft, ideal for an office or studio space for a hobby. There are two bedroom suites, one has a walk-in closet, the other does not.  There is a shared full bath between (Jack n Jill style) the loft area and one bedroom. A handy closet for linens and cleaning supplies is just outside one of the bedrooms, too.

You’ll appreciate attic access from the bedroom on the left, and from the other end of the hallway on the right.  Convenience is the name of the game with this home.

Also, upstairs, there is access from one of the bedrooms and the loft to the covered lanai.  Yes, you have outdoor space both up and downstairs.
