“The architect is not only the director, but he is the composer.  And, as a composer, the architect brings a sense of creativity to each building.”Santiago Calatrava

Yes, this home is a Traditional style home, but that does not mean Colonial or Georgian at the core.  A Traditional home takes its lead from several styles, seemingly simple in design, but typically elegant and understated in manner.  This beauty might seem angular and ‘traditional’ (which again, it is), but notice the elegant curve of the tall arches in the window and frame, above the columns at the front entry.  Notice the roofline reminiscent of a French chateau, the triangles familiar in English Country style homes.  A Traditional home pulls from everywhere yet maintains a classic elegance.  Frank Snodgrass of Living Concepts has composed and directed this beauty for you.  Come on in, I want you to see all it is and all it can be.

This is Alexander.  Alex (let’s call him a nickname, he will become familiar and comfortable to you) brings you just shy of 4,000 sq. feet in 2-stories with 4 bedrooms, 3.5 baths and oh, so much more.  Look……

Foyer, Living Room, Dining Room and Powder Room

Stepping from the covered entryway of your loggia into the foyer, your home rises up to meet you.  A living room to the left sits at a cool angle.  Connected and yet unique is what this room brings to you in it’s ‘not square’ shape.  Windows in a bay shape, but at an angle, show you the conventions and non-conventions of this home.  This space is the perfect ‘cocktails and charcuterie’ area before you head to the dining room to dine.  Double columns, open wide to the dining room, ‘framing’ each space.  The dining room will be filled with memories new and old, as you share meals with those you enjoy entertaining.  The front of the dining room is wide open to the foyer, again, ‘framed’ by columns to define its space.

To the right of the foyer is a powder room.  Yes, it’s small, powders rooms are, but you can still add charm and personality to it.  It’s asking you to.  See the ‘port’ round window just to the right of the front door?  That’s your powder room.  This little space demands being special.

Outdoor Spaces

From the living room, a double door takes you out to a covered porch.  Take your apres’ dinner drinks out here.  This will be one of your favorite spots so make it comfortable, you deserve it.  The dining room has large windows that look to this area, or you can install double doors and walk freely between spaces and open up your home to an ‘easy living’ feeling.  Whether you put in a table with chairs or chairs with a small table between, this is the place to give your life a little rest.

Now, I’m going to divert off the flow of the floor plan because I want to ‘show’ you all the outdoor spaces in a one go – and they are worth looking over the floor plans now.  From the morning room (part of the open kitchen/family room area), there is a single door out to an open/uncovered patio dining area.  Maybe you don’t want uncovered dining, so here you put a firepit and some comfortable seating.  Put your dining table, chairs and a grill on the covered area outside the living room and dining room.  This patio space is wide open you what you want and what connects you to the outdoors.

Finally, go upstairs (via the staircase in the foyer), to the master suite.  From the master suite (at the top of the stairs), is your own private covered porch.  Yes, to coffee in the morning.  Yes, to your favorite end-of-day drink.  This is where your morning stretches, and evening devotions are focused – where you center and ground yourself.

Every outdoor space is built for you to make your own.  Don’t be afraid to think ‘out of the box’ use, both indoors and out.  Remember, a traditional style is just that, it isn’t a mandate.

Kitchen, Morning Room and Family Room

Now, Alex says come into the kitchen and relax. The kitchen and daily hangout areas are accessible from the lower covered porch, a doorway from the dining room and a hallway from the right of the foyer.  From the dining room, your wide-open gathering space brings you a kitchen, like an island…surrounded by a beach of happy places.  The kitchen has a lot of counter space and cabinetry.  A small island in the middle of this will be where you prep meals.  A sink area with raised bar counter faces your family room.  You won’t miss any of the action going no matter your vantage point. A fireplace in the family room will add warmth and ambiance during chilly days.

Laundry Room, Back stairs and Garage

In the right front corner of the house, behind the laundry room is the second set of stairs. Across from the laundry room is a small closet for hanging coats and a door leading to a three-car garage.  There is a utility door from the garage to the outdoors.  So, buy the convertible, or make space for your hobby, because this garage can handle it.

Second Story – Rec Room

Walk up the back staircase and you’ll be met by a bathroom, a bedroom and a hallway to the rec room.  Let’s talk about this rec room.  It is in the back right corner of the house, which is perfect for ‘hiding’ away from the world for a while.  Entertain your girlfriends/guyfriends up here for whatever club you create, or just hang out and laugh for a while.  Teens can hang out and be loud.  Need quiet?  Come here and sit.  Nap.  Read.  Paint.  With a tray ceiling and a bay window-shaped wall, this room feels large and yet welcoming.  This is the getaway in your own home.

Master Suite

At the top of the foyer staircase is the master suite.  This bedroom has a unique shape.  It also has the bayed wall at an angle, perfect for a chaise, small table and reading lamp.  Put a large bed on the outside wall so you can look out your large windows and onto your second-story covered porch.  The covered porch also has a door with access to the bath, so after you do your morning stretches, your bathroom, with a soaking tub, separate shower and double sink vanity await you. A handy linen closet will keep your towels handy.  A large walk-in closet rounds out this space.

Suites

Besides the master suite, there are 3 other suites upstairs.  Kids or guests will be comfortable here.  One suite is across from a bathroom, another has a walk-in closet and shares a jack-n-jill style bath with the last suite.  The walls on the second floor have interesting angles and shapes – adding to the point that the Traditional style can have twists.
