Carrington: Traditional Excellence
“So much depends upon a red wheelbarrow glazed with rainwater beside the white chickens” – William Carlos Williams
This is one of my favorite poems – not written in the format Mr. Williams did, but you get the idea. So much depends……..
Houses are like that too. So much depends……on making the choice to build, then, where and lot options/preferences. Style? Size? Expectations for purpose of the house (starter, family, empty nester, vacation)? And that’s just for starters right? Well, you are in the right spot to deal with what depends on what and how. Frank Snodgrass, of Living Concepts Home Plans, can help you with all that matters and more for what make a house just right for you. One option is this Carrington (C-2764) plan, a traditional 2-story, 5 bedroom, 4 ½ bath home. With over 3,800 square feet of space, an exposed lower level and 2 more floors of great space for daily living, you’ll start dreaming and defining how to make this yours.
A traditional home doesn’t necessitate a singular ‘style’. A traditional home is any that has its design based on the traditional detailing of a particular style. American Colonial and homes Georgian in nature are most typically seen as ‘traditional’, but that isn’t the ‘whole’ of it. This home brings elegance, comfort, ease, and formality (or not – it’s your choice) when you use house plans/ideas from the past and introduce new products/materials that integrate into lifestyles of today.
Carrington – Traditional Excellence: Ideas
This home brings you stately and homey at the same time. The exterior brick, the tall and wide multi-paned windows, the tall roof peaks and lines…stately. Shutters, a covered front door area for potted plants or topiary – homey. Let’s go inside so you can imagine how this works for you.
Carrington: Living Room & Dining Room
Once inside the foyer, a living room and dining room are to your immediate left and right. These can be as formal and traditional or as comfortable and easy as you like. Again, there are no rules. Maybe your baby grand piano belongs in the living room? Maybe you use this for your office. The dining room has a nice, bayed window for charm and letting in light. There is a door, perhaps swinging or you don’t install one at all, from your kitchen here as well. Either the long back wall or long side wall (shared with the garage) is the ideal spot for your favorite artwork. Just beyond the doorway to the kitchen is a closet to the right and the staircase up to the second floor and down to the lower level.
Carrington: Grand Room, Kitchen, Laundry and out to Garage
Straight through your foyer is a large grand room with unlimited options. A fireplace can loom large if you wish and shelves or bench seating flanking. Or, a fireplace that blends into the wall-scape of colors/textures is up to you. So much depends……what do you want to room to feel like? Colors? Textures? For what purpose? There isn’t much wall space in this area, as this opens out to a beautiful terrace and right into your very open kitchen.
The kitchen has plenty of counter space for hosting potluck nights with friends and family, for a holiday baking palooza of cookies, or for the times you spend all day in the kitchen prepping meals for the next seven. An angled kitchen ‘island’ that also holds your sink, with a raised bar area gives you visual to the grand room, the outer terrace and morning/meal space.
Morning, noon or night, this eating area is plenty big. With another bayed window to the back yard, how it feels is up to you. So much depends…..on landscaping in the back. A door here leads out to your terrace as well. Imagine kids doing homework here, or maybe you do homework while pursuing a degree of your own. The table hosts many family conversations and laughter.
Leave the kitchen and head toward the front of the house, in the direction of the garage. You’ll pass your laundry room that gives you space for a wash-tub sink, upper cabinets or a drying rod. Then, a door leads out to the 2-car garage. While this plan doesn’t specify a utility door out, you can certainly put one it.
Carrington: Master Suite
Aside from all that you’ve seen and are getting excited about, you aren’t near the end of the ‘wow’ factors. This master suite, on the back left-side of the home, is more than ideal for everyone. Walking from the grand room, you’ll pass a powder room. Across from that is the entrance to your beautiful nightly abode. The master has the same ‘profile’ as the morning room, with a bayed window. Do you prefer a French formal styled room? Soft, cozy and neutral in colors? So much depends. Double doors, perhaps a satin brushed glass style leads from the bedroom to the bath. Separate sinks and vanities flank the door (at an angle). Your soothing garden tub sits at an angle in the corner. A shower and separate room for your toileting exist here as well. A walk-in closet will leave you wanting for nothing. It is complete perfection.
Carrington: Up, Up and Away
Your second floor is where your guests or growing family will find their respite. There are 3 suites up here and railings that look down to your kitchen/eating area. At the top of the stairs, go left to one suite with a walk-in closet and full bath. Then, to the right is another suite. This one has a jack-n-jill (shared) bathroom with the 3rd suite, in the front right corner of the house. The jack-n-jill bathroom is a 2-sink vanity bathroom so there is still ease in sharing space for teeth brushing and getting ready for the day or night. For privacy, the toilet and tub is in another enclosed space.
Carrington: Traditional Excellence – Down but not Out
Here is a wonderful hidden gem of this house. This is where the teens hangout. Men will watch sports down here and can be loud. This is your in-laws safe haven. Can you imagine your family hide-a-way? Down the stairs from the main floor, a very large rec room greets you. Another fireplace is ready for cool nights and double doors to your lower, covered terrace have ‘entertaining’ all over it. Think of all that you can enjoy down here – remember, so much depends on…….
The left side of this space offers a very large guest space with a walk-in closet and double sink vanity, bathroom. Shower, tub and toilet are separated from the sinks and a closet for linens and extra toiletries. This is a perfect spot for a college student, aging parents, or a super cool hobby place.
Double doors lead out to your covered terrace. Does that also lead out to a pool? It depends……a firepit, seating, hot tub….anything you want is here. The right side of the house, on this lower level, has a door that leads to a very large crawl space/storage space. On the rear left of this lower space is a door that gives you access to outdoor storage – for your pool supplies, gardening or whatever ‘stuff’ you need to stash.
Carrington: Traditional Excellence – However that translates for you
See? So much depends on location, your preferences, your ideas when building a home. One thing for sure? Let Frank Snodgrass and Living Concepts show you how it’s done with YOU at the forefront. This Carrington plan offers plenty and you fill in the blanks. So much depends….on what we do in the present that lead to paths toward our future.
Make this your own. Welcome Home.
