Amhurst – Cottage Ideal

Amhurst – Cottage Ideal

“I am excessively fond of a cottage; there is always so much comfort, so much elegance about them. And I protest, if I had any money to spare, I should buy a little land and build one myself..” – Jane Austen from “Sense and Sensibility

Are you ready for your land and building your elegant, charming cottage?   You’re in the right place.  Meet Amhurst.  Frank Snodgrass of Living Concepts Home Plans has created this 3,800 sq foot 2-story beauty.  With 4 bedrooms and 3.5 baths, there is plenty of room for a family or lots of visiting friends and family.

I hope the tall, warm, welcoming arches are calling to you. Tall, angled, high-pitched roofline, natural exterior materials and colors, shutters to frame your windows and a cute porch for watching the world go by make a cottage a cottage.  It’s already warm inside, let’s look around.

Welcome –

Upon entering the foyer, your home opens up.  Here you get a sneak peek into its warmth and promises of good times to come and memories to be made.  You’ll want to run into the gathering room, but let that wait, other spaces come first.  The dining room to your right has a unique octagonal tray ceiling.  This room would love a round table for 8-10 for intimate, fun, dining experiences.  Décor in colors of navy blue, cream, soft gold, and warm beige will add interest but not take away from a relaxing feel and let your meals in here stand out for what they are – good food, great times.  Don’t forget great wall art.

A study/living room to the left offers you options.  Don’t need a formal living room?  Ok, it’s your office.  Poof.  Make it what you want.  Have a beautiful grand piano, guitars, or other stringed instruments that need space?  Welcome them here.  Soft, chenille chairs, rich warm walnut and glass tables?

Master Suite –

From the foyer head toward the gathering room, turn left and waiting for you is a fabulous master bedroom suite.  A storage closet for bed linens and towels greets you just before you enter the bedroom.  A long wall is an ideal spot for a bed and side tables.  However, even better is on the opposite wall, closer to the charming bay window, which brings cozy cottage charm and nature into your day.

The master bath is perfect.  The two sinks/vanities flank either side of the entry. The shower and tub are separate as well so if you prefer a long, warm tub soak, it’s yours.  Even the commode gives you privacy in its closed-door area.  Lastly, a huge walk-in closet waits for you.  This space will hold plenty of clothes and shoes.  Out-of-season jackets?  Put them here.  Want a dedicated, organized area or your handbags, there is plenty of room here too.  A unique feature is the bench seat right under the front window of the closet.

Gathering Room, Breakfast and Kitchen

You will love the large, open, lightness of the gathering room.  The fireplace is centered on long wall and would look perfect with tall bookshelves or low seating/storage benches on either side. Two sets of French doors, leading to a large terrace, bring in light and visually open the room. Whether it is holiday entertainment or daily living, this room will bring joy to every day.  Think of décor as elegantly comfortable.  A leather sectional, marble-topped or artsy wood coffee table, a soft area rug on hardwoods can be just the beginning of the personality and welcome here. The stairway to the second floor is here too, but unobtrusive.

Your breakfast area and ideal kitchen are in the back right corner of the first floor.  The eating area sits next to a bay window for more charm and bringing in the outdoors inside.  I hope you like to cook or bake, as this kitchen has plenty of counter space and an island where your friends will want to hang out.  Put them to work, prep is always helpful.  There is also a pantry for extra ingredients and supplies.

Laundry and Garage

A hallway leads from the kitchen to the two-car garage.  An efficient, has-it-all laundry room is here too.   You can have a front-load washer and dryer and an area for folding and holding supplies.   A wet sink makes washing up after you’ve been outdoors easy.

The garage will easily hold your daily driver and a fun sports car.  You can also build shelves and a workbench on the shared wall of the house.

Upstairs

The upstairs is very functional and spacious.  Do teens need their own space?  Do you want a room for a girls’ night and book clubs?  Up here, you have choices.

The top of the stairs is open to below, and the top is a large space for soft, comfy chairs.  Maybe you want to build in a counter for desk/study areas.  Do you craft?  This open area gives you several options.

Three bedrooms up here offer family and guests alike, privacy and space. One suite has its own en-suite bathroom and walk-in closet.  The other two have smaller walk-in closets and access to a separate bathroom with a double-sink vanity off the hallway.  There is storage galore here with a linen closet, large attic area with dormers, and a huge bonus room.

Speaking of the bonus room, there are two windows to paint next to. This room is 29 feet long and can be used for reclining and movie-watching.  Add a refrigerator and snack cabinet.  Teens can have space to be loud and your book club can giggle or have interesting conversations over the last book you’ve read.  No matter what – this part of the house is private, large and multi-functional.

So, a cottage plan, like this Amhurst, is ready for you to build and enjoy for years.  Living Concepts looks forward to working with you to make this a reality.
